As a member of IBEW Local 103, you can upgrade your skills, advance your career and increase your earning power at our Joint Apprentice Training Center (JATC) in Dorchester. The Center is 71,000 square feet with 17 shops, 15 classrooms, three computer labs, a drafting room and more.
(Note: In-person courses at the JATC are currently on hold due to COVID-19 closures, as well as for the Summer (typically our slower season). Check back soon to learn about new online courses that will be available, as we look forward to reopening our school with safety for students as our number one priority.)

2020 JATC Course Offerings:
This 16-hour course is designed to help Inside Wiremen understand the operation of basic electronic fire alarm systems and how to install, check out, troubleshoot and maintain them. In addition, the various components and circuits of fire alarm systems are covered.
An NFPA 70E general awareness review of hazards associated with working on or near energized electrical equipment and circuit
This 40-hour course is designed to help prepare Journeymen for the Massachusetts Master License examination and provides a thorough and comprehensive review of the application process, questions from sample tests and calculations required for the examination. (A 20-hour, condensed course is also available.)
This 6-hour course is an introduction to Basic Motor Control concepts and applications using symbols, diagrams and drawings both in the classroom and some hands-on shop time. Coils, Contacts and Controllers are explained, along with manual and automatic controls. Wire strippers, pliers and a control screwdriver are required.
This 6-hour course shows a simple construction productivity software that is used in the field or office, from plans and specifications to punch lists, documents, submittals and project changes.
This 16-hour course reviews the various methods for bending conduit, including EMT and Ridged, using hand benders and Chicago benders and an introduction to 881 Green Lee bender. Classes also review advanced circuitry, including 3-way and 4-way switching.
This 6-hour course introduces the student to basic Audio and Video systems for Residential and Commercial equipment. Topics covered include: Video Display Technologies related to Image size and HD resolution, Distributed Sound associated with Home Theater Components, speakers and cable.
This 6-hour course, in partnership with Mass Save, reviews various lighting concepts, strategies, LED systems and architecture. Dimming, occupancy controls, daylight harvesting and lighting standards are also reviewed..
A 4-hour course as required for Renewal of Class 1B Hoisting Engineer License.
A 15-hour course on topics related to the Massachusetts Electrical Code, business and law. This course meets 15 of the 21 clock hours of mandatory continuing education required for license renewal.
